Tech Safe BC Support
What we can do.
Tech Safe BC works with survivors and their support workers to:
- Check for location tracking methods.
- Suggest ways to secure devices and online accounts.
- Look for spyware or stalkerware.
- Protect email accounts.
- Respond to online harassment through social media or messaging apps.
- Be aware of other relevant tech support services
What we can’t do.
Tech Safe BC cannot:
- Help with general tech problems (like fixing broken devices or setting up new phones).
- Support with tech issues not linked to intimate partner violence.
- Provide legal advice.
- Assist with the take down of non-consensual distribution of intimate images (NCDII). Please see BCSTH’s Compass Tool or contact the Intimate Image Protection Service for support with NCDII.
Who Can Access Our Services?
Tech Safe BC supports adult survivors (19+) of intimate partner violence who believe their current or former partner is misusing technology to monitor, control, or cause harm.
-
Survivors must be referred by a BCSTH member program
Referral Process
Any support worker that is affiliated with a BCSTH member organization who is actively supporting a survivor with safety planning for experiences of intimate partner violence may make a referral to the project (such as Women’s Transition House and Supports Program workers, STV counsellors, Outreach workers, community-based victim services, etc.).
